Welcome to Morsels & Moonshine!
I’ve always had a fondness for dessert and for animals. Why not combine them? On this site, I hope to merge my passion for baking using whole foods and natural ingredients, with my goal of using fewer animal-based products.
According to NPR, the average American consumes roughly 270 pounds of meat per year. In my not-so-humble opinion, I believe that this number needs to be cut down for both health and sustainability reasons. Since 2011, I’ve maintained a pescatarian diet; I occasionally eat fish. (Sushi is my weakness.
I wish I knew how to quit you, said in my best cowboy voice.) So, I’m not a vegan, but I cook vegan foods frequently and I understand the importance of the vegan diet. The recipes on my blog are vegan because I think that more people should consider where their food comes from. I’m not perfect and I may make mistakes with recipes, so I ask for your patience and support.
Phew! Now the heavy stuff is over.
Lastly, you’ll notice that each recipe contains some sort of boozy ingredient. Everyone can enjoy a little something extra in their goodies!
I hope you like the site and visit often.
Cheers!
-Aileen
PS - If you’re not sure that your booze is vegan, check out the web site, Barnivore. It is an AWESOME resource! Local wines, beers, and spirits are often vegan. Buy local 🙂
